Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 02/05/1998

Number: 1

A few monarchs appeared in our schoolyard sanctuary all through Nov., Dec., and Jan. into early Feb. Two larva were seen eating the butterlyweed in Dec., and 2 more in Jan./Feb. These last two emerged from their chrysalis and one had a malformed wing. It was later seen dead in our pond. The other one stayed around a couple of days feeding. We've had a very mild winter with no freezing temperatures in our sanctuary. (This is a repeat report but perhaps was never received as it does not appear in the records.)
