Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 02/23/1998

Number: 1

Mid-Coast of Texas: Two of our "local" monarchs flew past me as I went to Victoria. The first was 18 miles from Port Lavaca and the second 22 miles (8 miles from Victoria). It was 2 pm and there was a gentle NE breeze at 5-7 mph, not a cloud in the sky, and 81 degrees. Both passed at about 6 feet from NE to SW. Saw 8 large, yellow sulphurs along the way, most were crossing the road with the same heading. Roadside wildflowers are getting into bloom, butterfly garden in full bloom except for some blue sages and blue salvias. Students starting 6x21 ft butterfly garden at VCS. Harlen
