We went out to look at our garden and to prepare it for the "deep freeze" that was coming. We were shocked to find 5 tulips emerging. One was 4 inches! That is very early for our area. El Nino stricks again! We placed more hay on the garden for insulation and waited. Temperatures were frigid here on March 7, 8, and 9. Since then it has been unseasonably cold. We will have to wait and see how the tulips hold up. Our plant expert told us they should be o.k. We hope so. We plan on taking the hay off on Monday March 23 so that it will not keep the plants from emerging. We will report again when they bloom.
