Tulips EMERGED

Date: 03/20/1998

Number: 1

At long last some signs of life from those tulips we planted so long ago. Out of twentyfour, we now have three that have emerged.I am puzzled at their tardiness, since our Spring has been unusually warm. These nonnative tulips were expected to emerge and get nipped by a cold spell a few weeks ago that froze and seriously damaged the tough old day lilies.I was really beginning to wonder if We were the only ones who had really planted tulips seven inches down, since it seems that the whole country was watching tulips emerge, while ours still slept. Patience paid off for the tulips for the weather has settled down to seventy degree days and fifty degree nights. Our tulips will probably not get frozen but enjoy several healthy seasons in our classroom garden. Now let's all get ready to be patient while we wait for them to bloom!
