We were anxiously awaiting the blooming of our tulips, since nearly all 50 of them had emerged from the ground. They survived squirrels, the winter, and freezing temperatures in March, but they didn't survive the first lawnmowing done by our school district's maintenance man. Unfortunately, he mowed down most of the Emperor tulips. We did have a couple tulips survive, however, and they bloomed on Thursday, April 9, right before our spring break.
We returned to school on Monday, April 20, and discovered that 10 more flowers (out of 50) escaped the lawnmower's blade and were also blooming! Next year we are putting up signs all around our courtyard so the same thing doesn't happen again!
