Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/01/1998

Number: 1

Source: Monarch Watch

The first northward migrating monarch was sighted near Olney IL on May 1. According to my source, it was actually flying in a westward direction, low to the ground, until it came across a north/south railroad, at which time it headed southward, peppering the fresh milkweed with eggs. (Between 40 and 50 were recovered)
