Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/01/1998

Number: 1

Brady sighted his butterfly on Green's Island, an island near Vinalhaven. "I was in a neighbor's yard, and saw it on a dandelion. It's colors were dull. It sat on the flower for a while then just flew away." Vinalhaven is located 14 miles out in Penobscot Bay. Every fall island students enjoy the migration south. We have located the tree that the monarchs roost in at night on their migration south. It is a pine tree located on Lane's Island. It is breath taking to see the tree come alive when the morning sun warms the tree.
