First sighting of an adult monarch 8 May at 1005 est. I live in Virginia Beach, VA, about 4 miles, as the crow flies, from the Chesapeake Bay. The day was cloudy and the
temperature in the low 70s. I saw several butterflies in the area that
week. This sighting was the first in my yard. I live along the Atlantic
Flyway and see a lot of migratory birds. I have designed my small yard to
attract hummingbirds and butterflies and have raised monarchs and black
swallowtails.
