our backyard habitat is still a work in progress. we bought our house new with 5 acres that was formerly a corn field. each year we try to plant tree seedlings of many different kinds. we have planted walnut, oak, sycamore, ash, maple, and many more. we put out many different types of flowers. every spring we put out hummingbird feeders and last year we planted trumpet vines for them. its fun to watch them as they come up to our window feeder. this year we put up gourds to attract purple martins and we now have 3 pairs building nests. we also have spotted a baltimore oriole building a nest this year. this is a first, so we added an oriole feeder. we also feed birds throughout the winter. we have seen red-headed and downy woodpeckers, goldfinches, house finches, chickadees, tufted titmouse, killdeer, robins, bluebirds, bluejays, and many more. on occasion we have seen deer and wild turkeys.
