John Littleton sighted 1st monarch on April 7. He couldn't get close enough to to tell sex, etc., before it left. The sighting was in Little Switzerland (nearest town is Spruce Pine, NC)
Monarchs have been notable for their absence here in the North
Carolina Blue Ridge this spring. I have yet to see my first--quite a
contrast to last year, when I saw several in mid-April and early May
(and had lots of reports from friends who had seen them too). The only
person I know who has seen any is John Littleton and he's seen two as of 5/15/98.
