This afternoon, I spoke with Amy Tesolin, Interpretive Naturalist at Point Pelee National Park near Windsor, Ontario. She reported that the first monarchs were seen at Pelee on May 7th and 9th, and others have subsequently been sighted.

Needless to say, being at the crossing over point of two bird flyways, the birdwatching there is globally renowned, with all manner of stragglers and rareties such as yellow-headed blackbird, Mississipi kite, summer tanager and so on. So with so many hundreds of birdwatchers, the probability of sighting early monarchs is very high.

Must now check with other provincial and national parks in Southern Ontario.
