While having lunch outdoors today some 12 miles from Hartford, CT,
watched a monarch in reasonably good shape and flying very strongly.
Milkweeds here are 18"-2' tall. Did not see any egglaying nor was I close
enough to identify the animal to gender.

On another butterfly note, while videotaping a birding program here near
Hartford, watched a female black swallowtail ovipositing on rue-- Ruta
graveolens. I know this to be a giant swallowtail larval food, but does the
literature mention ovipositing on this plant by the black swallowtail..I'm in
Connecticut without a library so would appreciate a response.
