May 23

The first monarch I saw in N.E. Pa was May 23 in Jim Thrope, PA.
The winds have been quite strong here latey. So the monarchs, which are nectaring mostly on purple clover are laying low, swooping out only to nectar and then hiding again from the wind. Most of the time they must be 'flushed out' by walking through the fields. Many times, they will still not fly until you almost step on them. However I have been finding eggs for the last two weeks. More Tiger swallowtails than ever before.
