While camping this weekend, I saw 12 bald eagles soaring at one time--the first
eagles I've ever seen in the wild. The location was on the Big Sioux
River, on the edge of Brandon, SD. There are a lot of large cotton wood
trees in that area. There is a warm water discharge from the Brandon water
treatment plant at that location. Could it be that the eagles are nest
there year-round, because of open water on the river in winter?
