Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/14/1998

Number: 1

On May 14, 1998, I sighted two specimens of monarchs(uncaptured)
flying on Bogart Prairie within the confines of Prairie State Park in
Barton County in southwest Missouri. One was a very old and worn
specimen, while the other looked to be a very recently emerged
specimen in excellent shape. There are a number of native milkweed
species on this prairie as well as other flowers they could nectar on.
This was the first monarchs I had seen in Missouri this year. I just
returned from the same prairie yesterday, but saw none this month.
Hope the information helps your project.
