I saw one butterfly, flying slowly over milkweed (not yet in bloom) near my garden. Several times it suddenly zoomed after a tree swallow which was nesting in a box nearby. Each time,after the swallow flew higher, the butterfly returned to its up and down, gentle, over-the-milkweed flight. I saw no more Monarchs for another 3 weeks, and have seen only one or two a day since, sometimes none. (What happened to them?)
