Signs of Fall

Date: 08/05/1998

Number: 1

First of the ruby-throated hummingbirds returned after last being
seen in May. There has been a sudden southward movement of
hummers this week across Texas. Many other birds are being
reported as forming-up in groups or moving south in groups.
Shore birds and wading birds have also begun their southward move
since the first of August. A few kettles of hawks have been
reported in south central Texas. Drought and extreme heat may
cause them to move thru Texas quickly. We have been doing daily bird counts all summer along Lavaca Bay, up close and personal. Harlen and Altus Port Lavaca TX 77979
