Signs of Fall

Date: 08/12/1998

Number: 1

Our rather large hummingbird population in this rural wooded mountain area of Appalachia left much earlier than usual this year. They literally disappeared on this date. All I have seen since are travellers passing thru on their way south.
I attributed this disappearance to hurricane bonnie or some other radical change in the barometric pressure. Or maybe the el nino or la nina effect. But we also have had signs of an early fall for the last month here. Fall Wildflowers blooming earlier than usual for example.
