Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 09/12/1998

Number: 1

We drove through Squaw Creek Refuge again this evening. It is a 10 mile drive. By the time we came to the area where we saw the Monarch's yesterday it was about 6:45 PM. We saw several flying around the area, but there were none in the trees. We noticed that there was a field of milkweeds just along the edge of the trees and that the monarch's were on them very heavy. We decided to drive around the road again. It was about 7:30 when we got to the area and the monarch's had already started covering the branches like they were yesterday. Many were still flying in. Tonight there were several cars behind us seeing the same thing we were. We took a roll of pictures of various single branches where there were at least 50 monarch's on each. The larger branches had many more. This area was like this for at least 1/4 to 1/2 mile. I tried to contact the office there, but it was closed until Monday. I was trying to find out how long they will be here before they move on.
