Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 09/15/1998

Number: 1

We had a very strange and sad event today. We have been growing Monarch larvae in our classroom and our first larva began the process of making its pupa. We were all anxiously awaiting this morning when we expected to see the beautiful green chrysalis in the larvae house when our poor little critter began twisting terribly and a white maggot appeared out of his back and fell to the bottom of the cage. We removed the maggot to a different container and by this afternoon it has formed a brown pupa about 1 centimeter long. We want to find out what this terrible parasite is and we hope none of our other larvae are also afflicted!
