Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 09/15/1998

Number: 1

Mystic is fluttering with Monarchs!! I have spoken to many parents here in Mystic concerning the Monarch butterflies and they all have told me the same thing. This past week has been incredible for numbers of monarchs sighted. I am wondering if the Monarchs are taking a shore route in their migration because other parts of the state don't seem to have the huge numbers that we have here. Yesterday
we sighted 8 of them only but it was cloudy and I had just "trimmed" our butterfly bushes. What I mean by sighting is that I send students out for a two minute count and they report back to me right away exactly the number they saw. Our bushes have attracted a large variety of butterflies this season but the monarchs have been showing up in large numbers just this past week. Perhaps we are part of the migration route and they are beginning to migrate.
