Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 09/14/1998

Number: 1

Our science class went to the county nature trail. We saw 7 Monarchs within a 15 minutes period of time. The weather was cloudy and rainy, 68 degrees. We also saw a Monarch caterpillar feeding on a milkweed leaf. We wondered if the caterpillar still has time to turn into a butterfly and migrate to Mexico. On our second trip to the same area we saw 6 Monarchs within 8 minutes. Today's weather is sunny and 80 degrees. Today's weather pattern is a stationary front hanging north of Iowa.
