Date: 09/19/1998

Number: 1

We have been participating in the "Texas Hawk Watch" and are beginning to get many migrating hawks through the "coastal bend" of Texas. Last Sunday (9-13-98), we had two kettles of Mississippi Kites over the VCS campus #1 at 3 pm. One kettle totaled ~200 and the second ~250. There were also 30 singles and doubles. On Thursday (9-17-98) we had one kettle of ~180 Broad-winged Hawks form up over the VCS campus #2 at 2 pm. There were also 20 in small groups and 1 Mississippi. The Corpus Christi THW site had over 22,000 hawks thru there yesterday (Sat 9-19-98). We also counted 25 Belted Kingfishers while "hawking" on the county roads today. Harlen and Altus
