Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 08/20/1998

Number: 1

Seabrook, Texas on Galveston Bay

This morning, a sunny cool day so far with no signs of the tropical storms that have been forming in the Gulf of Mexico, I spotted my first monarch of the season flitting about my garden primarily going for the nectar in the Mexican milkweed. This little fellow was well beat up. About one-third of the left wing was gone and the butterfly was generally the worse for wear.

We've had an abundance of hummingbirds for the past week--probably 10 or 12 at a time, ever since tropical storm Frances came through this area.
