Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 09/20/1998

Number: 1

Today I had two Monarchs necating on my buddleia davidi all morning. There was one Male and one Female. This was the first sightings since September 12th in my very large butterfly garden. Weather today was clear blue skies with no wind. Tempratures hit the mid 80'degree mark. Visited a large working farm in Sherborne, MA in the afternoon that had a very large decorative flower garden and additonal cutting flower garden. There were large plantings of New England Asters and buddleias everywhere. Not one Monarch was seen over a three hour period walking around the gardens and the farm.
Yesterday the 19th was mostly sunny with in the high 70's with a strong SW Wind at 16 miles per hour running constantly. I did not have any monarchs but a grouping of American Painted Ladies (Vanessa Virginiensis) arrived in the garden. My count was 15 nectaring, courting and males chasing males all day. Many specimens were freshly emerged in appearance with a scatterd few that were very old and ragged loo
