Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 09/20/1998

Number: 1

The weather had been hot and dry here in Lincoln. NE. Throughout the week I
saw quite a few Monarchs nectaring at my sedum flowers each evening. I
counted 25 at the sedum on Thursday, 9/17/98. (However, I looked every
evening and could find no roosts in our yard nor in the common ground behind
our house.) On Friday and Saturday, the number had dropped to 7 or 8 at a
time, nectaring at the sedum. On Saturday, they were busy at the sedum
throughout the day. Then, Saturday evening, the wind picked up and that
night a rain front moved through Lincoln. I believe we had an inch to an
inch and one half of rain. The temperature dropped from highs of in the low
90's to a high of about 73 degrees today. (Sunday 9/20/98). This afternoon
and evening there were no Monarchs nectaring in my garden. I walked around
the two acres of common ground behind my garden and saw 7 Monarchs
fluttering high above from tree to tree. I will keep watch and let you know
what happens this week
