Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 09/11/1998

Number: 1

Altus and I saw a Monarch on Sept 7th and 2 more on Sept 11th. These all seemed to be in "good" shape and were drifting towards the south. These probably were not "real" migrants from the "real" north as the ones will be in about 2 weeks. We have not seen a Monarch in our yard and for some reason the A.curassavica plants have few blooms right now ... maybe 14 inches of rain since TS-Frances has flooded them a "little".

We are forwarding a sighting from Mike Quinn from "down in the valley" near the southern Texas-Mexico border. Another was seen this week at the "hawk watch" site about 25 miles west of Corpus Christi ... near Robstown, Tx. We have been participating in the "Texas Hawk Watch" and are keeping our eyes
open for Monarchs. Our "really big" push of Monarchs last year came the last week of October and the first week November ... hundreds per minute.
