Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 09/20/1998

Number: 1

I saw my first monarch today, feeding in the Mexican milkweed on a clear cool morning here on the Texas coast. The poor guy was terribly bedraggled--a good part of his left wing had been beaten off in the travels to Texas. But he was still getting around pretty well. I actually don't know if this was a male or a female. Didn't get that good of a look.

We've also been really invaded by the ruby-throated hummingbirds this fall. There are 10 or 12 of the little fellows running around our garden and the hummingbird feeder. They really came in strong right after the little tropical storm we had a week or so ago and they haven't left yet. Gathering their strength for the flight South I guess.
