Our class has been watching the number of monarchs that have been visiting WeberElementary School's prairie. The weather as of Sunday was still quite warm, in the 80's. We are surprised that there are so few monarchs here. On Sunday, only 5 were seen around the area. Students who live around the school are not seeing too many either, and there are many farm fields and open areas with wild flowers or paririe grasses. We did hear a report on the local news that the town of Churdan, Iowa has had thousands of monarchs in its fields this past weekend. Churdan is located in western Iowa in Greene County. There are many farms there.
