Well, I was about to give up on seeing any Monarchs in my yard this year. I had let grow a sizable number of small sunflowers (Jerusalem artichokes) that I had seen monarchs feeding on at Point Pelee last year in hopes that they would stop by here this year. Last year I saw dozens this time of year pass through every day and so far this year I've only seen 2 or 3. Well today my beautiful yellow "beacon" attracted 2 beautiful Monarchs to their nectar where I enjoyed watching them fuel up for over an hour. I know 2 is nothing to get excited about but with their decreasing numbers this year I'm happy to get any come through my small yard. One was quite ragged but the other was a perfect specimen. I wish them a safe journey South.
