Today I saw my first Monarch of the season, feeding on butterfly bush and Mexican milkweed in my garden. Its wings were pale, but completely intact. It actively fed right in front of me. My 4 milkweed plants are covered with eggs and young larvae. Obviously I missed seeing previous visitors. As they mature, I will bring them inside since geckos are such a problem here. I live on the Calcasieu River, 50 miles from the Gulf of Mexico near the Texas border. Today was 95 degrees, clear skies, and a 10 mph wind out of the NE.
