Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 09/29/1998

Number: 1

On 9/29 "Laura" (Monarch Watch tag CY836)a female raised at school from a catepillar at school was released. The same day 27 handmade, well loved paper monarchs began their journey to Mexico. Sightings this fall by the kids in Sister Ann's first grade have been few, with a few encouraging groups on flowers. I have checked every two days at Odiorne Point in Rye since the begining of September and have seen one or two at a time except for one day there were about 35. Today at the "Commons" in New Castle NH I was able to tag 11 for Monarch Watch, and there were probably twice as many feeding off the dandilion. Less than a mile north up the road at the Coast Guard Station I was able to tag another six on clover using up all but one of my tags. The day was warm with a light breeze.
