Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/01/1998

Number: 1

We saw one lonely monarch hiding in bushes in a park near our school. It was a cold (about 10 degrees Celcius)and windy day. We went to Victory Park, about 1 km south of our school to release painted lady butterflies in a sheltered area. Two weeks ago, we got the butterflies as caterpillars, watched them turn into their chrysalis stage, and then watched the changes as the chrysalides darkened before the butterfiles emerged. It was exciting! We hope our butterflies will find their way to Arizona or Mexico before it gets too cold.
