Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 09/28/1998

Number: 1

I saw Monarch at 1:15 pm on Monday, Sept. 28.1998 while walking along the woods side of Birchwood Park Drive. It was a sunny, brisk day with wind from the north. The Monarch was flying south. It was a brightly colored butterfly; deep black and bright orange.
Subsequently on Tuesday 9/29/98 and Thursday 10/1/98 I saw more Monarchs in the same area. The woods are pine, oak, and hickory with lots of weedy underbrush. Goldenrod and Pokeweed are most obvious, but there are many other plants there too. You have to be careful to stay on the path because of ticks.
