Signs of Fall

Date: 10/02/1998

Number: 1

On Friday, Oct. 2, 23 first graders gathered to release the newly emerged Monarch from their classroom. It was windy but not too cold. We released the butterfly in our garden where there was some wind protection and some flowers still in bloom. It took off and then landed on the grass nearby. Escaping the stampede of its well-wishers, it soon took off again, only to land on Erin's sleeve. She controlled the impulse to knock it off and we removed it to a dalhia and said goodby. Now we are waiting for the caterpillar given to us by Mrs. Groves's class to form its chrysalis. And hoping it will be warm enough for it too to Journey South.
