Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 09/22/1998

Number: 1

We have just raised, tagged, and released 10 monarch butterflies. We have several that are still in their chrysalis. We don't know why they haven't hatched. Our janitor told us that on the day they were due to hatch he cleaned the floor with Lysol. The fumes were so strong that they permeated the school. Could this have caused them to die? We are so sad! Please let us know if this is the reason they have not hatched.
Thank you,
Mrs. Little and the third grade students at Shady Side Academy Jr. School in Pgh. Pa.
