Signs of Fall

Date: 10/08/1998

Number: 1

Today we released our final 2 monarchs.. a male and a female. The female was raised by Mrs. Hlwati's first grade class. Mrs. Lynsky's first grade class also came with us to tag and release these two butterflies. It was cool and breezy today. Only about 64 degrees. Everyone cheered and clapped as these two "late bloomers" came out. The butterflies were resting on the flowers in front of the school at 3:15 when we went back inside. I hope it doesn't get too cold for them tonight. It is supposed to warm up the next couple of days. There hasn't been many monarchs around school this year. I'm not sure whether that is due to weather conditions early in the season or just the natural population fluxuation. We also sent 136 paper monarchs to JOURNEY SOUTH today. The third graders are so excited about writing to the children in Mexico. We'll be keeping an eye on the migration reports. Thanks for letting us be part of this amazing project.
