Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/14/1998

Number: 1

From: North Hall Middle School Gainesville, Georgia (site of the 1996 Olympic Rowing Venue) We have not seen any Monarch in our butterfly garden at school. It is inside of a courtyard between two buildings. There are many species of butterflies, but no Monarhs. Our teacher, Mr. Barton, lives 3 miles away from school on top of a hill. He has two large butterfly gardens at his home. The one on the north side of his house has been having 20-30 Monarchs on butterfly bushes forthe last 18 days. The one on the south side raely has even one Monarch in it. Mr. Barton says that he can see the Monarchs come in from a northest direction from the sky. The feed and usually leave in a southwest direction. His daughter helps him tag some of them for Monarch Watch. If they release several at one time they all stay in agroup and fly southwest together. The reason we are reporting this is that it has been wind for the last two days and he has not seen any Monarchs in either garden. Good Monarching,Mr. B
