Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/14/1998

Number: 1

I was on Galveston beach 10/14/98 and I kept seeing butterflies flying parallel to the water's edge. There were hundreds but they did not fly close together. It was a steady stream of them heading southwest. I could not tell if they were monarchs but probably were. None landed for me to see and it was windy. They could have been the g. fritillary, I just don't know. In Houston I have 10 monarchs in jars getting close to going into chrysalis and there are 4 on a milkweed outside. I have about 5 same species of other plants but they only get on this particular one.
I still have not seen the monarchs so they are few and far between inside loop 610. I released one monarch on the 15th and I have not seen it since. The swallowtails, sulphurs, f.fritillaries are around although not abundant.
