Another swarm of monarchs came through that afternoon on my way home from work. I would say I saw close to another 500 butterflies. One took a free ride on a student's backpack into my classroom. The butterfly looked sick (kind of grayish). We moved him from the backpack to a table. A few hours later, he was dead. We kept him as an example of a monarch. His color seemed to reappear after he died. Kind of strange, I thought.
It is now Saturday, October 17. A cold front with thunderstorms came through early this morning so I do not expect to see any monarchs for a few days.
