As last week, the students at Donoho School in Anniston, Alabama, continue to see just a few Monarchs around the school; usually just one or two at a time. Margaret and Rosalie saw one on the playground, and several third grade students saw one or two at a time several days during the last week. Our sightings seem to fewer and farther apart in the last few days. We haven't seen as many this year as we did last year. Our school secretary, Mrs. Poe, saw one at the beach last Saturday in Destin, Florida, when she was there for the weekend. Ryan saw five Monarchs feeding on the flowers in his backyard in Talladega, and Caitlyn saw seven in the flowers in her yard in Anniston this past week.
We were hoping to see more, but a cold front has pushed through, causing temperatures to drop to the mid-40's. Nighttime temperatures of the low- to mid-30's are forecast for the next two days, so we may not see many more Monarchs this year. It is supposed to be in the upper 70's by next week,
