As of today (Thurs, Oct. 22), the wind has gone back to the N to NE since Monday and the flights of Monarchs have returned. We drove to Victoria Tuesday and counted about one Monarch for each 100 yards. We saw about 250 Monarchs fly from N to S in the 30 miles.
Our first large numbers of migrating Monarchs were on Oct 10th.
They were passing the Lavaca Bay Causeway site where we where
at a rate of 1 every five minutes ... we netted and tagged one.
Wind was 15 mph out of the north.
