After Mr. Hawes prepared our tulip bed today, Mrs. Hawes's and Mrs. Groves's first and second graders planted 50 Red emperor tulip bulbs. They also planted a few other bulbs: One pointy-end down, one on its side and 2 that they will dig up in December and if possible in Jan. or Feb. to see what is happening under the ground. It was a sunny, breezy fall day in Washingtonville and we have not yet had a killing frost! A bonus was discovered when Mr. Hawes took down our bean and gourd trellis--two more birdhouse gourds! We will dry them for next year.
