We are third graders at West University Elementary School in Houston. On Oct. 30, we saw 5 monarchs in our school's wildlife sanctuary. They were mostly getting nectar and we saw one lay an egg. It was sunny and about 83 degrees. We had a small cold front over the weekend; then on Nov. 2, we saw 2 monarchs and 2 more on Nov. 3. One of those, a female, had very raged wings; about half of the lower left one was missing but it could still fly and was drinking a lot. The other monarch was a male in good condition. The tempt. was about 70 degrees with a slight breeze and sunny. We now have found about 10 larva but haven't found any pupa yet.
