Signs of Fall

Date: 11/06/1998

Number: 1

Nov 6 98: Beautiful male monarch on A. curassavica at noon today in VCS's butterfly garden. We netted, took statistics on, tagged and released. So far would be in the top 10% of this fall's monarchs as to mass and wing length. Robins are being sighted this week along the mid-coast of Texas from Victoria down to Rockport. The hawk migration is drawing to a close with some of the late arrivals "planning" to spend the winter in South Texas. Nine Whooping Cranes reported at Aransas NWR (25 miles to the south-southwest of us) this week. Harlen http://www.homestead.com/vcs
