Tulips PLANTED

Date: 11/10/1998

Number: 1

On October 22, twenty second graders from one class planted a tulip garden. We planted it in the front of the school near the flag pole to signify that many schools in the United States would be participating in Journey North. First, in the classroom, our teacher helped us learn how long the garden would be. Each bulb measured one inch wide and we had to allow for four inches between each bulb. This meant that we could plant 42 bulbs in the two rows. We then asked our parents to help us prepare the garden bed. Finally, we each got to plant a bulb in the garden. Once this was done, our parents helped us cover up the bulbs with peat moss and soil. Now all we have to do is wait until they emerge and bloom.
