On a cool day during the second week of November, approximately 120 children ventured into the 40 degree weather to plant their Red Emperor tulip bulbs. Each of the five classes of second and third graders were assigned to a planting section under the elementary school sign. The weather that night dipped down to a chilly 23 degrees and we awakened to frost on the ground. We are anxious about the day that our tulips emerge from the cold Michigan ground.
