Thirty-five fourth graders from Bowman Middle School planted 50 Red Emperor tulips in rich soil that brought about 18 earthworms to attention. It was nearly 70 degrees on October 26, when we were planting. We measured the circumference of each bulb in order to determine if the size of the bulb has anything to do with blooming in the spring. We planted 20 tulips of another variety to compare with this garden.
