All Other Signs of Spring

Date: 01/18/1999

Number: 1

On a trip to Grand Island (about 40 miles west of us) we saw hundreds of Canadian Geese circling the area at dusk. There are some breaks in the ice on the Platte River and the ice on area ponds is thinning due to recent weather well above freezing (66 degrees F. on 1-15). Also the tulips and hyacinth along the west foundation of our school are emerging. We have no snow on the ground but some is expected this weekend. That would be of much benefit to the grass as well as our tulips. No sign of emergence in our experimental tulip garden. We are excitedly awaiting Ground Hog's Day and the beginning of the Journey North season.
