Last evening (1-21-99)I made an attempt at counting the Am. Robins coming into an evening roost in Groton along the Nashua River. Some groups come in over head (making the counting easier) but many , many more landed short of me in the pines and just "flowed" through the woods like a river. Fourtunatly many of the latter were moving along the edge of a field so a lot were visible. Having to count in 50's , 100's and even 200's I came up with an estimate of 5500 Robins coming through from were I was on Fitch's Bridge Road just off Rte 119.
Regardless of the exact number I think you get the general picture--there's a pile of em! I wonder what other "goodies" might be mixed in with them?
